Vichuga, formerly known as the village of Bonyachki, became the birthplace in the 19th century of major merchant-industrial dynasties such as Konovalovs, Razorenovs, Mindovskys, Morokins, and Pelyovins. Thanks to their efforts in the 19th and early 20th centuries, a significant textile industry was established in Vichuga and its surroundings, as well as in Kineshma, Navoloki, Zavolzhsk, and Yurevets. In the cities of Vichuga, Navoloki, and the village of Kamenka, factories became the backbone of the economy. Kineshma, initially a small town, transformed into a large industrial center thanks to the Vichuga manufacturers.
