In the center of Cyprus, near Nicosia, lies one of the largest Russian churches on the island, the Church of Apostle Andrew. Its full name is the Church of Saint Apostle Andrew and All Saints who Shone in the Land of Russia. The church was built by the Russian philanthropist Vyacheslav Zarenkov. Construction began in 2015 and was completed quickly. Within a year, the church was adorned with five golden domes made in Voronezh, the largest of which weighs seven tons. After the building was completed, work began on landscaping the area and painting the interior. The walls of the church were painted by Moscow artists, inspired by the Russian Renaissance. The walls depict famous stories and events from the lives of Russian saints, starting from the Baptism of Prince Vladimir to the spread of Orthodoxy in Kievan Rus. The church's iconostasis includes 90 icons created by icon painters from Moscow and St. Petersburg. The church was opened on March 27, 2017, and the ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials of the Republic of Cyprus, including President Nicos Anastasiades.
