Russians in Zambia

Фото 1
The Russian-speaking diaspora in Zambia numbers about one hundred people. More than 50 people actively participate in the Association of Compatriots, including citizens of Russia and other CIS countries.

Despite the significant distance from Russia, Russians in Zambia maintain their usual way of life: they celebrate traditional holidays such as Christmas, Maslenitsa, and New Year, and organize Christmas trees for their compatriots. Russian schools operate in the country, and interestingly, local residents also show interest in learning the Russian language. For example, a Zambian police officer sometimes attends the school.

Orthodoxy in Zambia is represented by the Alexandria Orthodox Church diocese, which is located in Lusaka and is headed by Bishop Joachim (Kondovas). The diocese was established by a patriarchal tomos on February 22, 2001. Its parishioners include Greeks, Russians, Serbs, and Africans living in the country.
