At the beginning of the 20th century, the demand for publications in Russian was extremely high. This was due to a significant increase in the number of Russian-speaking immigrants from Russia and other post-Soviet countries, who needed assistance and useful information for successful adaptation. The desire to maintain the ability to read in their native language also played an important role.

The fact that in 2017 the editorial office celebrated its fifteenth anniversary indicates that the popularity and demand for the publication not only remain but continue to grow.

The newspaper does not stand still and actively uses modern technologies. In addition to printed issues, there are electronic applications, as well as social media accounts and its own website.

'Our Harbor' has positioned itself all these years as an informational publication uniting Russian-speaking people.

It is a newspaper about Russians and for Russians in New Zealand. It is the only one that publishes an English-language supplement that tells about Russia and Russian culture, history, and traditions, as well as publishing impressions of New Zealanders who have visited Russia. The newspaper is published with a large circulation of 1500 copies for the diaspora.

The Russian-speaking diaspora in New Zealand actively participates in interethnic cultural events organized by government structures, representing its cultural heritage. Dancers, singers, musicians, choral and theatrical groups are regular participants in such events. Cultural events often take place within the Russian-speaking diaspora as well. Concerts, festivals, and performances are always very popular among the local population. All this is organized by caring individuals united in public organizations, creative teams, or initiative groups. In Auckland alone, there are more than 15 such groups. They promote the national cultural values of Russia not only within their diaspora but also among the English-speaking population of Auckland and the entire country.
