In the small town of Hall Creek in Western Australia, an unusual monument has been erected, depicting a miner pushing a cart with an injured traveler. This sculptural composition is called "Russian Jack" and is dedicated to a national hero of Australia with Russian roots.

The hero's real name is Ivan Fyodorov. He was born in 1852 in Arkhangelsk, served in the navy, and then worked on commercial English ships, which brought him to Australia, his second homeland. This was during the gold rush, and Fyodorov had an amazing instinct for locating precious veins. His guesses were always confirmed by subsequent research, but he never became wealthy himself, as he did not manage to register land parcels. Australians remember him for his selflessness, bravery, and kindness.

Australia is mostly desolate deserts, and reaching the goldfields required traversing dozens of kilometers under the scorching sun. Many could not withstand such trials and fell from exhaustion. No one offered help, as it meant supporting competitors. However, the Russian Ivan always helped those in need, providing them with shelter and food. There is a known case when he, heading to a gold vein with a cart loaded with 80 kg, encountered an injured miner. Ivan placed him in the cart and took him to the nearest town. At a time when a handful of gold could lead to murder, Ivan's kindness was considered the highest degree of nobility.

Ivan Fyodorov-Fredericks, who later changed his surname to the English style, became a national hero of Australia. In 1974, grateful residents of Hall Creek raised funds to erect a monument to Russian Jack.
