The enamel museum in Rostov was founded in the late 19th century, with the first exhibition taking place in 1888 at the museum of church antiquities. Since then, enamel has been regularly showcased at exhibitions. In the 1970s, the first independent exhibition of enamels was organized, but it could not fully reflect the history and development of enamel art, as well as the works of local masters. Therefore, in the 1990s, a decision was made to create a specialized museum complex.

The museum's collection is housed in four halls of the Rostov Kremlin and includes about 3000 exhibits, starting from the 18th century. The exhibition begins with a hall featuring various types of artistic enamels, including items from other artistic centers. Here, one can also see the tools of contemporary Rostov enamel masters and a kiln for firing.

Each century has its own dedicated hall. The 18th-century hall displays the earliest miniatures, including works by Moscow masters who influenced local products. Most works in this hall are unsigned, as the enamels were created by icon painters, with the exception of Andrei Vsesvyatsky and Alexander Moshchansky.

The next hall features works by Yakov Shaposhnikov, as well as those of his contemporaries: Pavel Burov, Alexey Tarasov, and Nikolai Arkharov. The themes in the enamels began to resemble traditional Orthodox icons. In addition to miniatures, large enamel plates depicting saints and religious scenes are also exhibited here.

The final hall showcases works by students of A. A. Nazarov, who during the Soviet period contributed to maintaining the high quality of enamel. Items from the 30s-40s and 50s-60s are grouped into thematic complexes. Here, one can also see the Rostov masters' engagement with church themes and icon painting. The museum also displays works from the year 2000.

The tour of the exhibition is accompanied by a guide's narration about the history of this artistic craft and its renowned masters. The museum also has a shop where souvenirs can be purchased.
