March 12 marks the name day of Grand Duchess Kira Kirillovna, Princess of Germany and Prussia.

Grand Duchess Kira Kirillovna was born on May 9, 1909, in Paris and passed away on September 8, 1967, in Saint-Briac. She was the youngest daughter of Grand Duke Cyril Vladimirovich, who proclaimed himself Emperor of All Russia in 1924, and Grand Duchess Victoria Fedorovna, born Princess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Great Britain. By the decree of Emperor Nicholas II, Kira was included in the Russian Imperial House with the title of Princess of Imperial Blood, retaining all rights, including the right to inherit the throne. Nicholas II was her godfather.

After her father took the title of Emperor Cyril I, Kira Kirillovna received the title of Grand Duchess from him. In 1938, in Potsdam, she married Louis Ferdinand, Prince of Germany and Prussia. Her father Cyril Vladimirovich and the groom's grandfather, former Emperor of Germany Wilhelm II, attended the wedding. The former was a great-great-grandson of Empress Alexandra Fedorovna, wife of Emperor Nicholas I, while the latter was a great-grandson of King of Prussia Frederick William III.

After the death of his father, Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia, Louis Ferdinand became the Head of the German Imperial and Prussian Royal House. Kira Kirillovna and Louis Ferdinand had seven children.

Today, their grandson, Prince Georg Friedrich of Prussia, born in 1976, heads the German Imperial and Prussian Royal House. He is the son of Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia and Countess Donata of Castell-Rüdenhausen.

In September 1967, Kira Kirillovna went to Saint-Briac to visit her brother Vladimir, where she passed away from a heart attack.
