In the small town of Tikhvin, there stands an unremarkable 19th-century house where the famous Russian composer Nikolai Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov was born, founding his own school of composition. This talented man is known worldwide, but unfortunately, the places associated with his life are not very popular in Russia and attract only the most devoted fans of his work. Today, I will tell you about his parental home, where he was born and took his first steps.

This house is nearly two hundred years old, and during this time it has only been slightly remodeled, preserving its original appearance. For a long time, it was forgotten, and the composer was not widely recognized during the Soviet period. However, during those times, outstanding figures were often remembered in connection with anniversaries, and on the 100th anniversary of Nikolai Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov's birth, he was recalled. It was then decided to open a house-museum in his native Tikhvin, which happened in 1944.

Since the opening of the house-museum, time has passed, and in 1971, a monument to Rimsky-Korsakov was erected in the adjacent area, and later the house underwent renovations. Now, the museum's attendance has increased, and its collection includes about 19,100 exhibits, including the composer's personal belongings and items from his contemporaries. The main relic of the museum is the original Becker piano, which Nikolai Andreyevich himself worked on. This instrument miraculously survived after 1917, when noble estates and the homes of wealthy people were destroyed and looted.
