Redoubt of Saint Alexander Nevsky in Rostov-on-Don

The fortress "Rostov" was founded during the reign of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna and served as an important defensive and trading center in southern Russia. The future city housed defensive redoubts, among which were the most powerful: "Don", "Andrei the First-Called", "Catherine", "Trinity", "Anna", "Paul", "Peter", and "Alexander Redoubt".

Unfortunately, neither the redoubts nor the fortress itself have survived to this day. Therefore, it was decided to create a symbolic redoubt-monument dedicated to the heroic past of the fortress and the city. The monument is named after Saint Alexander Nevsky. It is located in the 1st of May Park on Bolshaya Sadovaya Street, the central street of Rostov-on-Don.

The monument consists of a crenellated wall, symbolizing the defensive walls of the city, two coats of arms, including the coat of arms of Saint Alexander Nevsky, and a cannon, which was the main means of defense. This symbolic redoubt is an important monument for the local residents, who remember how the history of the capital of southern Russia began.
