On July 10, 1918, in Yekaterinburg, Chekists executed Count Ilya Leonidovich Tatishchev and Prince Vasily Alexandrovich Dolgorukov. Both were generals and voluntarily followed the Imperial Family into exile in Tobolsk and Yekaterinburg. Ilya Tatishchev accompanied the royal children during their transfer from Tobolsk to Yekaterinburg, where they, along with Prince Dolgorukov, were arrested on May 23, 1918.

Their bodies were left at the Ivanovsky Cemetery in Yekaterinburg without burial. Later, when the city was taken by the White Guards, the remains were found and presumably buried by the sisters of the Novo-Tikhvin Monastery in the monastery cemetery. This was reported by Chekist A. Kabanov, who claimed that "the bodies were buried by the nuns in the cemetery." During the Soviet era, the location of their burial was lost.

In 1981, the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia canonized them as holy martyrs, Warrior Ilya and Warrior Vasily. Eternal memory to the faithful generals.
