Caucasus is located almost a thousand kilometers from our province, but there is a street in Penza named after this mountainous region. In the 19th century, impoverished migrant workers lived here. In 1832, the gendarmes prevented a coup in Georgia. The rebels planned to restore the Bagrationi dynasty and declare independence. The court sentenced all participants in the case to death, but Nicholas I at the last moment commuted it to life exile. At that time, the governor of Penza was Alexander Panchulidzev, who descended from the Imeretian princes. He stood up for his fellow countrymen and ensured that some of the rebels were sent to Penza. However, upon arriving here, they faced many problems. The area was undeveloped, and shantytowns of clay huts emerged. Instead of sewage, the Georgians used the local stream from which they took water. Thus, several generations of exiled rebels passed. Later, their grandchildren began working as porters, janitors, and laborers for pennies. The settlement of migrant workers had a bad reputation in the city. The people of Penza called this area Dog's Order, and it was only incorporated into the city at the end of the 19th century, with the street named after its residents, Caucasian.
