Sardi’s restaurant, offering continental cuisine, is located at 234 West 44th Street, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue, in Manhattan's Theater District, New York. It opened its doors at this location on March 5, 1927, and is famous for the caricatures of Broadway celebrities that adorn its walls, numbering over a thousand.

The restaurant was founded by Vincent Sardi Sr. and his wife, Jenny Pallera. Prior to this, they operated another restaurant nearby from 1921 to 1926. To attract customers, Sardi Sr. invited Russian immigrant Alex Garda to draw caricatures in exchange for free meals. After the death of Vincent Sardi Sr. in 1969, the restaurant began to lose popularity in the 1980s and was sold in 1986. After a temporary closure in 1990, it reopened with new staff.

Today, Sardi’s has become an iconic venue. Over time, it gained fame as a popular meeting place before and after theater performances, as well as for hosting late-night parties. It was here that the idea for the Tony Awards originated.
