The desert of St. Theodosius of the Caucasus is located in the village of Gorny in the Krasnodar Krai, not far from Anapa and 30 kilometers from Novorossiysk. Geographically, this place is known as the Kashinskaya Gorge. In 1904, a monastery was founded by the decision of the Holy Synod from the Pokrovskaya community, which settled in a large beech forest known as the Dark Beech. Nearby, Father Theodosius arranged his desert.

Theodosius planned to build a church but struggled to choose a location for a long time. He prayed on a large stone in the gorge, and the Mother of God appeared to him, indicating a place for the temple. The next morning, periwinkle bloomed at that spot, which usually does not grow there. Father Theodosius, with his helpers, built a chapel, a prosphora, cells, and asked God for a spring, which later became miraculous. His relics are located in the Pokrovsky Church of Mineralnye Vody. In our time, Elder Theodosius was canonized among the saints of the Stavropol Diocese.

Amidst the greenery and trees stands a chapel adorned with frescoes dedicated to St. Theodosius of the Caucasus. Here, hermit monks live in dugouts. Nearby is a well with holy water.

The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God, the Life-Giving Spring, is located on the territory of the desert of St. Theodosius of the Caucasus near the village of Gorny. It is also called the Zhivonosovskaya, Fedosievskaya, Theodosievskaya, Theodosiyevskaya, and Fedoseyevskaya.

The church was built on the site of the chapel erected by Father Theodosius and his companions. During the Soviet era, all buildings were demolished. Only in the late 1990s was the healing spring restored, and then a chapel was built in honor of St. Theodosius of the Caucasus, a brick church of the Icon of the Mother of God, the Life-Giving Spring, with a bell tower and a Holy Cross next to the path that St. Theodosius walked. In front of the temple is a large icon of the Mother of God and a simple candlestick.
