In the village of Mesyagutovo, there were two churches: a wooden Sorrowing Mother of God Church, built in the early 20th century and destroyed during the Soviet era, and a stone church in honor of the holy prophet Elijah, erected in 1826 through the efforts of parishioners.

Next to this church was a school, there were 41 desyatinas of land, a grain barn, and trading shops that brought in annual income. In 1937-1938, the church was closed, looted, and devastated, being one of the last in the diocese.

During the Soviet years, the church building was first used as a machine and tractor station, and later it stood idle. In 1963, it began to be converted into a cinema, although prior attempts were made to blow it up.

In 1994, the building was returned to the Church, and the parish was restored. On December 28, 1998, Bishop Nikon established the Prophet Elijah Men's Monastery near the village of Mesyagutovo, and the Elijah Church became its main dependency. The first abbot of the monastery was Hieromonk Sergey Bezrukikh.

By 2002, five priests served in the monastery, and the total number of brethren was 21. The monastery has the John the Theologian Skete on Dubovaya Mountain, an agricultural estate in the village of Elanysh, and provides pastoral care to parishes in the villages of Voznesenskoye and Maloyaz.

The central dependency is located on the territory of the former park. Next to the temple is a wooden brotherhood building, and part of the former priest's house has been converted into a refectory. Large-scale restoration work is underway on the Elijah Church. In recent years, supporting columns for the dome have been erected. In 2002, work began to restore the original appearance of the walls, central drum, and dome. By the end of the construction season, the roofing was completed. A metal tent, drum, and dome were manufactured at the Perm plant 'Nytva'. A brick fence with gates is being built around the perimeter of the territory.

The restoration of the narthex and bell tower, destroyed during the Soviet era, is forthcoming. An extension was built in their place, where services are currently held, accessible to both monks and parishioners. Daily services follow the monastic order: morning prayers begin at eight in the morning and end by noon, while on festive and Sunday days, only hours and the Divine Liturgy are conducted.

Despite its own needs, the monastery engages in charity, helping those in need with food and clothing. Visits are made to places of incarceration, and packages with food, clothing, and spiritual literature are sent. The monastery assists those suffering from alcoholism and drug addiction, monitors the activities of sects in the area, and explains their dangers to people.

Great attention is paid to organizing a Sunday school. The district administration supported this initiative by providing a room nearby the church, which is to be renovated and prepared for classes. Annual pilgrimage trips to holy places are organized.
