The building was erected in 1896-1897 with funds provided by a native of Nerchinsk, Moscow merchant and one of the founders of the resorts in Matsesta (Sochi), Mikhail Mikhailovich Zenzinov. He also founded the Mikhailov Parish School in 1888, for which this building was intended. 3000 rubles were allocated for the construction. At different times, the school had between 47 and 79 students, and literary evenings were held for all students of the city schools. During the Soviet period, the building continued to serve educational institutions, and an extension with additional classrooms and a gym was added to its western facade.
