The parish began its work in November 2009 in the building of the old Presbyterian church in Clinch View, which was acquired by the local Orthodox community. The building needed major repairs, and its reconstruction took a long time. For the next four years, parishioners worked almost continuously on the restoration, sacrificing a significant part of their personal time.

The rector, Father Ioann Wetts, strives to make the Orthodox parish a part of the local community. He organized a parish food pantry that opens every third Saturday of the month. The goal of the pantry is not so much to help all those in need, but to support the local working poor. These people have jobs, but their income is insufficient to cover all expenses, and they need basic food items. The opening of the pantry is announced through local social service offices, grocery stores, and welfare agencies to attract public attention. The parish also participates in the "Right to Life" movement, supports high school softball teams, and high school students engage in projects such as a Christmas toy drive for children from low-income families. When Father Ioann walks the streets in the area of St. Nektarios parish, locals recognize him and say, "Are you the priest from the church with the blue domes?" Police and restaurant owners, even if they do not seek interaction, perceive the parish as part of the local community.
