Arrival of the Holy Royal Martyrs in Monaco

On March 31, 2017, starting from Lazarus Saturday, the Orthodox residents of Monaco celebrated Holy and Great Week of Easter for the first time in the principality. This became possible thanks to the efforts of the associations "Russian Orthodox Church in Monaco" and "Parish of the Holy Royal Martyrs," which operated under the guidance and blessing of Bishop Nestor of Korsun, as well as with the support of Monaco residents Pavel Sukhoruchkin, Yulia Ordning, and others.

The parish, led by Archpriest Vadim Zakrevsky, was located in the building of the Reformed Church in La Condamine. On the day of its opening, we spoke with Pavel, Yulia, and Father Vadim, who shared what inspired them to create an Orthodox parish in Monaco. We also talked to Alexander Hagerty, a resident of Monaco, who, along with Yulia Ordning, united the Orthodox residents of the principality by founding the association "Russian Orthodox Church in Monaco."

The idea began to take shape when parishioners from London, whom I knew from previous service, moved to Monaco. They played a key role in the opening of the parish, becoming its founders. One of them, Pavel Sukhoruchkin, along with his business partner, invested both effort and funds into the project. However, for me, the most important thing is that these people seek spiritual nourishment for their families, children, and all who live in this beautiful warm country.

Pavel Sukhoruchkin noted that the idea arose when it became clear that it was necessary to provide financial and organizational support to the priests and parishioners so that they could gather for worship and cultural, spiritual development.
