In the Assumption Church of Bogotá, now known as the Church of the Three Archangels, about 60 Russians gather for major services such as Easter. In Colombia, Russians refer to all descendants from the former USSR republics, as explained by representatives of the Russian diaspora. After each Sunday service, it is customary to hold a meal, as there is always a reason to invite parishioners to the table. Russians actively participate in the life of the parishes of the Constantinople Patriarchate. The foundation of the parish in Cucuta, located near the border with Venezuela, was the only Russian woman living in this city, although more than half of the parishioners are Orthodox Venezuelans.

The first priest of the Moscow Patriarchate to visit compatriots in Colombia was Father Gennady Geroev. From 1989 to 1991, as the secretary of the Exarchate of Central and South America, and then of the Argentine and South American Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, he served twice a year in a prayer house set up in the apartment of ballerina Alexandra Krasnoperova in the capital. In January 1999, the rector of the parish of the Protection of the Holy Virgin from neighboring Panama, Archimandrite Tovia (Glazyrin), visited Bogotá. According to L.I. Gorbatova, an employee of the Colombian branch of the oil company LUKOIL-Overseas, many people, mostly women, attended the first service with Fr. Tovia at the Assumption Church. It was hard to call them believers, as 70 years of atheism left their mark. People did not know how to behave, were noisy, and talked. It was difficult for Fr. Tovia to organize them. The next day, he baptized several people, including Gorbatova's one-year-old son. He returned for the second time in 2000, served, baptized, and blessed homes.

Today, there are three Orthodox parishes in Colombia: the parish named after the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia in Cali, the parish named after St. Seraphim of Sarov in Bogotá, and the parish named after St. Alexander Nevsky in Medellín.
