The village of Popovka, located in the Saratov region, has a rich and interesting history that dates back to the 17th century when it was founded by landowner Popov. According to some sources, the foundation may have occurred in the 18th century. The village is situated on the banks of the Latryk River and is surrounded by picturesque natural landscapes, including the Popov Pine Forest, which is a natural monument.

The Popovsky Bridge, built in 1913, serves as an important element of the village's infrastructure. It was constructed over the Latryk River and is still used by residents. The bridge attracts attention with its design, which features two dates: 1613 and 1913. The first date remains a mystery, possibly related to the year of the village's founding, while the second marks the year the bridge was built, presumably in honor of the 300th anniversary of the settlement.

The history of the village is rich with events. In the 18th century, serfs lived here, owned by landowner Menchugov, while some peasants and lands belonged to the treasury. In 1760, the archimandrite of the Saratov Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery consecrated a church in honor of the Protection of the Mother of God; however, it likely burned down soon after, as a new wooden church was built in 1790. In 1890, the church was reconstructed and expanded, but it was closed and destroyed in the 1930s.

In the 1890s, the village faced a cholera epidemic that caused panic among the residents. Local peasants even guarded the spring from which the entire village drew water and expelled a doctor, suspecting him of poisoning the sources. By 1912, important social institutions appeared in Popovka: a zemstvo school, a hospital, medical, veterinary, and midwifery points, as well as a post office. In 1913, a stone bridge was built over the Latryk, and in 1916, a spacious two-story school.

Modern Popovka, which until 2004 was the center of the eponymous district, is now part of the Rybuschanskoye rural settlement. The village has a cultural center, a hospital, a post office, shops, a kindergarten, and a secondary school with a local history museum. However, the village faces the problem of being adjacent to a munitions disposal site, putting homes, the post office, the hospital, and the school at risk of destruction.

In the post-Soviet years, the religious community was revived. In 2009, a cross was erected and consecrated at the site of the future construction of a new church in honor of the Protection of the Holy Virgin, and in 2013, a space for temporary worship was consecrated. Today, Popovka continues to develop while preserving its historical and cultural traditions.
