The monastery in Shamorga does not have an ancient history, as it was founded only a few years ago. The Holy Pokrovsky Women's Monastery in the village of Shamorga, Shatsky District of the Ryazan Region, was established in 2002. On July 17 of that year, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, under the leadership of Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and all Russia, blessed the opening of the women's monastery. Previously, there was a parish church on this site, consecrated in honor of the Holy Epiphany, with two chapels dedicated to the holy great martyr George and the holy martyrs Flora and Lavra. Historical data indicates that the church was built in 1856 with funds from parishioners. It had a strict rectangular shape, was made of stone, adorned with porticos and columns, and featured an elegant bell tower with a rotunda. The interior of the church was richly decorated, including a gilded carved iconostasis and frescoes. Only the refectory part of the church was heated, and services were held until 1939. The last priest was Archpriest Vasily Yakovlev. In 1939, he was arrested, and the church was closed. After two years in prison for his priestly activities, Fr. Vasily worked as a paramedic in the Vyshenskaya psychiatric hospital, and after the war, served in the church of St. Sergius in the village of Emmanuilovka. He died in 1969 and was buried in the cemetery in Shamorga. By the time the monastic community was established, the church was almost destroyed: without windows, a roof, floor, and doors, covered in inscriptions and littered with debris. Only part of the wooden base of the iconostasis remained. Rain and snow entering threatened the collapse of the vaults. Six nuns from Moscow and the region, who arrived in Shamorga, could not envision restoring the church due to a lack of funds. They repaired the building of the former library, converting it into a small house church, consecrated in 2002 by Metropolitan Simon of Ryazan and Kasimov in honor of the Protection of the Holy Virgin. Daily services began to be held in the church. The same building housed the refectory and the sisters' cells. In 2003, nun Lyubov Nepakharova was appointed as the abbess of the monastery. The main efforts of the residents were directed towards restoring the Epiphany church. Since 2004, a roof, windows, and doors were installed in the church, the spire on the bell tower, crosses on the bell tower and rotunda were recreated, porticos with columns were strengthened, and the walls and vaults of the refectory were prepared for finishing. The rotunda and the upper part of the bell tower were plastered and painted, a rough floor was laid, an energy supply project was developed, the iconostasis was recreated, and church utensils and liturgical books were acquired. On October 14, 2006, Archbishop Pavel of Ryazan and Kasimov consecrated the Epiphany church. Regular services began in the church in the spring of 2007. There are no hotels or refectories for pilgrims in the monastery.
