Фото 1
The men's monastery dedicated to the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos is located in the Torbeevsky district, near the district center, in the Erzya village of Drakino.

The Drakino pagans gradually accepted Christianity, and in 1743 the first wooden church was built, which burned down in 1750. In 1843, a second wooden church was constructed with altars in honor of John the Baptist and Saint Nicholas. The construction of a third, stone church began in 1908, but due to World War I, it was never completed. The altar part remained unfinished, however, the church was used until about the 1917 revolution.

In 1920, the church was closed, later it was briefly returned to the believers, but in the 1930s, during the period of collectivization and the anti-church campaign, it was taken away from the parish again.

In the 1950s, the church was reopened, but in the 1960s it was closed again. The residents of Drakino fought for its reopening, sending delegations to Moscow, and in 1978 they succeeded; the Pokrovskaya church became active again. The first service took place on December 4, 1978, on the feast of the Entry of the Theotokos into the Temple.

By the blessing of Archbishop Varsonofy of Saransk and Mordovia and the decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on December 28, 1998, the Pokrovsky men's monastery was established based on the parish church, making it one of the youngest in the diocese.

In the same year, two side altars were consecrated in honor of the Nativity of John the Baptist and Saint Nicholas.

In 2001, 20 hectares of land were leased three kilometers from the village, and a skete began to be arranged.

Today, the skete has a chapel dedicated to St. Seraphim of Sarov, consecrated by Archbishop Varsonofy in February 2002. All conditions have been created for the brethren to live and engage in agricultural activities.

The monastery's brotherhood is small but actively engages in educational, missionary, and charitable activities.

With the efforts of the monastery, a Sunday school has been established and is functioning. The priests of the monastery conduct prison ministry in correctional colony IK-12.

The brotherhood also provides charitable assistance to a children's home for disabled children in the village of Potma.
