The Pokrovsky Men's Monastery was founded in 1896 by the first bishop of Omsk, Gregory (Poletayev). In 1905, the holy righteous John of Kronstadt visited Omsk and blessed the monastery with the icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow."

During the Soviet period, a children's home was briefly housed in the monastery's cell building. Later, the monastery's land was used for experimental crops. In 2007, the cell building of the former Pokrovsky Monastery was transferred to the Bolshie Kulačy Holy Nicholas Men's Monastery.

On January 2, 2008, the residents and parishioners of the Holy Nicholas Men's Monastery held the first Penitential Cross Procession, which became annual, to the site of the former Pokrovsky Monastery. More than 70 people walked 22 kilometers from the village of Bolshie Kulačy in prayer.
