In 1953, the formation of the parish began in the western part of the city. Priest Rostislav Han, who arrived in April of that year from Harbin, was appointed the rector of the Pokrov community and later the parish in Cabramatta. Initially, the church was located in a converted old residential house that stood on the site of the current school and hall of the church. With the increase in the number of parishioners, a decision was made in 1957 to build a new church. There were not enough funds for construction, so it was built by the community. Construction continued until 1973, but services in the new church began even before its completion. Father Rostislav was beloved by the parishioners, and the church built became a monument to this respected priest. He passed away in 1975.

In 1980, the new rector, Father Alexey RozenTul, together with icon painter Antonina Ganina, began the interior painting of the church, which lasted about 12 years.

Today, the golden domes of the Pokrovsky Church in Cabramatta are visible from the windows of the House of the Russian Charitable Society named after Sergius of Radonezh and adorn this area of western Sydney from afar.

The church bookstore offers many books in Russian and English on spiritual topics, as well as liturgical books in Church Slavonic and English. Additionally, one can find icons, incense, baptism crosses, and other items here. The store is open after Divine Liturgy every Sunday and on major church holidays.

The church's shrine is the icon of the Mother of God "Sign-Abalatskaya."
