It is located in the northern part of Alberta. The exact dates of the founding of the Bluffton community are unknown, as its founder, Archbishop Joasaph (who later became the Archbishop of Argentina and Paraguay), was forced to temporarily leave Canada and move to the USA due to residency issues. However, the community received recognition from the ROCOR as an Orthodox monastic community in North America. The monastery's church was built around 1930 or 1932 and became part of the property of the monastery, which was formalized between 1928 and 1930. Initially, it was a male monastic community, then from 1950 to 1990 it became female, and after 1993 it was revived as a women's monastery.

The monastery has winter and summer temples, as well as a cemetery. Currently, the monastery is being replenished with young novices. Eight nuns, including a new young novice and 92-year-old schema-nun Varsonufia, lead an ascetic spiritual life under the guidance of the venerable schema-nun Ambrosia. The monastery is served by Hieromonk Dionysius (Dimitrievich), who lives in the priest's house on the monastery grounds. The house is adjacent to about eighty hectares of forest covered with pines and birches. Father Dionysius conducts liturgy three times a week, as well as on weekends and holidays.
