In 1707-1708, a wooden Pokrovsk Church was built in the Pavlenkovskaya Square area. A library and church school operated at the church. In 1709, a wooden bell tower was erected nearby, which was almost completely destroyed by a storm on June 19, 1822, and rebuilt in 1830. On May 5, 1902, the construction of a new stone church began.

In 1903, the construction of a stone single-domed church, connected to a two-tiered bell tower, was completed. The architecture is done in the neo-Russian style with elements of Vladimir-Suzdal motifs. In 1943, the church was closed, and in 1946 it was dismantled. According to the church inventory of 1827, the old church housed a handwritten Gospel in half-leaf in a leather binding, written in Poltava in 1605, as well as two Gospels in leaf printed in Moscow in 1697 and 1779 in a silver binding.
