The installation of the Pilgrim Cross in Rostov the Great took place on June 4, 2015, and its consecration occurred the following day, June 5. This cross was made specifically for the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of the passing of Saint Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir.
The project was developed by Nikolai Alexandrovich Mukhin, an academician of the Russian Academy of Arts and a laureate of the State Prize. The granite cross, standing 3.7 meters tall, was installed on the shore of Lake Nero on a massive boulder weighing 18 tons. It serves as a reminder of the baptism of the residents of Rostov in the waters of the lake in 991 by Prince Vladimir.
