On May 15, 2020, a monument to Admiral Alexander Vasilyevich Kolchak, a well-known Russian political and military figure, was erected in Sterlitamak, Bashkiria. Kolchak, who served as the Supreme Ruler of Russia during the Civil War, was renowned before the revolution as an oceanographer, polar explorer, and traveler. An island he discovered in the Taymyr Bay of the Kara Sea is named after him.

The bronze bust, created by sculptor Alexander Dikunov from Voronezh, was installed in front of the city's shopping center with funds from local entrepreneur Tagir Ibragimov. Ibragimov had long planned this project, surprised by the one-sided perception of history in society and questioning why many streets are still named after terrorists who killed Russian emperors and statesmen.

The entrepreneur aimed to restore historical justice by erecting a monument to a man who made significant contributions to science and fought in the Russo-Japanese and World Wars. Kolchak also attempted to end the chaos during the years of turmoil but was captured and executed without trial.

The unveiling of the bust in spring 2020 coincided with the 100th anniversary of Kolchak's execution. However, the monument stood for a short time: the authorities of Sterlitamak decided to demolish it, which was done at night. The official reason given was that the unveiling event was held illegally during the self-isolation period.

The pedestal of the monument bore an inscription about the admiral's life and his words spoken shortly before his death: "We all live with one thought, one desire to restore our perishing Motherland."
