The Battle of Pleven became one of the key battles of the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. This battle was a turning point after which the Turkish army could no longer effectively resist the Russian troops. In 1977, on the anniversary of the liberation of Pleven, a panorama titled "Pleven Epic 1877" was opened at the site of this significant battle. It allows modern people to look at this great and bloody event from the inside.

The building of the panorama is located in the center of the General Skobelev Museum Park and was constructed in just 11 months with significant support from the USSR. It is shaped like a truncated cone, set on four stylized bayonets, symbolizing the strength of Russian weaponry. Surrounding the building are four horizontal rings: three symbolize the three assaults on Pleven, and the fourth represents the blockade.

Inside the panorama, visitors will find four halls: the Introductory, the Panoramic, the Diorama, and the Final hall. In the Introductory hall, one can see six paintings measuring 4 by 3.6 meters, depicting moments from Bulgarian history and the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. Next is the cylindrical Panoramic hall, 40 meters in diameter, where the walls depict the combat actions of one of the assaults on Pleven. The scale of the artwork creates a sense of being inside the battle. The Diorama hall, slightly smaller than the Panoramic hall, showcases the last fight for Pleven. The Final hall tells the story of the surrender of Osman Pasha and the crossing of the Russian troops over the Stara Planina mountains. On the roof of the panorama, there is an observation deck offering a magnificent view of the surroundings.

The "Pleven Epic 1877" panorama is an unusual and fascinating museum. Although the sounds of gunfire and the cries of battle remain in the past, the unique exhibition allows one to feel the atmosphere of those heroic and frightening events. The panorama is open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and the entrance ticket costs 5 leva.
