The Petropavlovsk Local History Museum was established thanks to the efforts of members of the local history circle at the Petropavlovsk school in the Krasnozersky district. The circle was led by history teacher Nikolai Moiseevich Bakhmatsky. The documents they collected about the history of the village, its residents and veterans, as well as photographs, became the first exhibits of the school museum, which opened on November 7, 1987. On March 1, 1993, it was transformed into the Petropavlovsk Local History Museum.

Today, the Petropavlovsk Local History Museum is a museum complex covering an area of 0.7 hectares. Visitors can see an ethnography and archaeology hall, a hall of military and labor glory, a hall dedicated to the history of education in the village, and a hall on the history of the village of Petropavlovka. The museum's collections hold 3,523 items in the main fund and 2,661 items in the scientific auxiliary fund. Among the exhibits are a handmade sideboard from 1946, a wooden bed from the early 20th century, a collection of embroidered towels, a decorative towel, and other antique household items, as well as materials related to the Great Patriotic War and Stalin's repressions.

A particular pride of the museum is its open-air exhibition. In 2005, the street of the first settlers was reconstructed, featuring a bathhouse, a blacksmith shop, a dugout, a well, and two houses: a plastic house made from clay-coated earth layers and a mud-brick house made of clay and straw. Inside the houses, details of the interior and daily life from the late 19th century have been recreated. Piece by piece, the atmosphere of the past has been restored, creating a unique work of museum art.
