The memorial is dedicated to the soldiers of the 3rd Pontoon Bridge Brigade of the Reserve of the High Command. In 1943, after the breakthrough of the blockade of Leningrad, the fighters of this brigade built crossings over the Neva, which connected the besieged city with the "mainland."

The memorial plaque reads: "To the pontoon soldiers who laid bridges here over the Neva from the besieged Leningrad to the 'mainland' in 1943."
