In 1992, a miraculous event occurred in the sky above the place where the monastery now stands, and an icon of the Mother of God appeared. Father Pitirim personally built the first wooden church using materials from a prison barrack. Later, he, along with the novices who became residents of the Ulyanovsk monastery, erected a stone church. In August of the same year, Igumen Pitirim witnessed the Mother of God walking on the ground next to the church, approaching the cross procession.

At the spot where her feet passed, a votive cross has now been installed, and a well has been dug. During the consecration of the well, a copper cross was lowered to its bottom, which is clearly visible from above, as if lying on the water. The water in this well is considered holy. The monastery was opened in 1993 and previously belonged to the Arkhangelsk diocese.
