The square was established in 1962 on the odd side of Mira Street, between the tram stops "Ul. Sovetskoy Armii" and "Ul. Chaykovskogo." Previously, there was a large marshy ravine of the Garushka River, the source of which began on the territory of school No. 109. Initially, the square was named "Square of the XXII Congress of the CPSU" and was designed by architect G. Denisova from the Gorproject Institute.

Later, the square was renamed in honor of forester V. L. Mindovsky, who spent over thirty years greening Berezniki and Perm.

In 2009, the square was closed for reconstruction and reopened on November 4, 2011. During the renovation, new asphalt paths were laid, lamps were installed, lawns were landscaped, benches were placed, and playgrounds were organized.
