Oryol's Botanica Park got its name from the botanical garden established here in 1845 at a tree nursery. The park is located on the southwestern outskirts of Oryol, between the Oka River and the Oryol-Bryansk railway line. This land was previously called 'Lutov Khutor' in honor of its owner, Lutov. Later, the state purchased the khutor, and a cemetery named 'Lutovo' was established here. In 1841, the Nikolayevskaya Church was built, which existed until 1930. The 'Oryol State Tree Nursery' was opened by order of the 3rd Department of the Ministry of State Property, and a botanical garden was laid out alongside it. The garden featured numerous species of trees and shrubs, such as poplars, willows, birches, bird cherries, lilacs, pines, firs, mock orange, wild grapes, and spindle trees. There was also a greenhouse with about 45 species of houseplants.

In 1847, a school for gardeners opened on the nursery's grounds, and from the 1880s, courses in fruit growing were held here. Ten years later, a meteorological station was established. In 1922, a pomological nursery was created based on the nursery, and in 1933, a branch of the research institute of horticulture was established, which 14 years later became the Michurin Fruit and Berry Station. In 1955, the station received a new plot of land, while the old site retained the 'Botanica' division. Some buildings and century-old trees from this horticultural site remain in the park.

The Botanica Park is adjacent to a vast area with shrubs and trees covering about 24 hectares. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, summer camps for the cadet corps were located here, and later, the command staff of the 6th Oryol Division. In the mid-20th century, a trade union holiday home named 'Botanica' opened here, and in 1973, a city-wide culture and recreation park was created, which still exists today. The fruit and berry station was relocated, and part of the park was allocated for residential development.
