The tragedy of Chernobyl led to the death of tens of thousands of people: many died immediately, while others later due to the effects of radiation. Many selflessly sacrificed their health and lives to help cope with the consequences of the disaster. In various cities in Russia and other countries, monuments have been erected in memory of the victims and those who suffered. Azov also has such a monument.

In 1996, a commemorative stone was laid, and in October 2007, the monument "Victims of Chernobyl" was installed. This composition of stone and granite symbolizes the nuclear explosion.

The monument is located in the "Youth" square in the city center, which was later renamed "Memory Park." The monument consists of a rectangular arch with a bronze bell weighing 150 kilograms. Plaques with the names of the deceased residents of Azov are affixed to the pedestal. This monument serves as a reminder of the courage of the liquidators of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster.
