In the center of Krasnodar, on Krasnaya Street, you can see an unusual monument. This bronze sculpture was created by the talented sculptor V. Pchelin, inspired by I.E. Repin's painting 'Zaporozhtsy Write a Letter to the Turkish Sultan.' The monument was installed in 2008 to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the famous artist's visit to Kuban. In the late 19th century, Repin came to Yekaterinodar to find images and ideas for his painting. He visited Pashkovskaya stanitsa, where the descendants of the Zaporozhian Cossacks and participants of the Crimean War lived, and made several sketches for his future work.

The painting depicts an important historical moment. In the mid-17th century, the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire demanded that the Cossacks lay down their arms. The Kuban ataman Ivan Serko responded not only with a refusal but also with an ironic letter full of characteristic Cossack humor and sharp expressions. This incident became a symbol of the freedom-loving and indomitable spirit of the Slavic peoples. The bronze figures of the Cossacks are life-sized and accurately replicate the scene from the painting.

The monument has become beloved by both residents and guests of Kuban. A free bench is set up by the bronze table, where one can sit and feel like part of the historical event, at least in a photograph.
