In September 2014, a monument "To the Veterinarians of Don" was unveiled in Rostov-on-Don, becoming the first of its kind dedicated to this profession. The opening was timed to coincide with the 225th anniversary of veterinary medicine in the region. The monument was created by Rostov sculptor Dmitry Lyndan, known for his numerous works.

The monument is made of bronze and depicts a kind-hearted man with a beard and mustache in a simple caftan and boots, gently stroking a foal. A bag of veterinary tools hangs from his shoulder, marked with a characteristic sign. The prototype for the sculpture was the renowned doctor Paramonov, dedicated to his work. The foal symbolizes not only new prospects and changes but also the free spirit of Don.

The monument is located next to the house where the honored veterinarian of the RSFSR, Sergey Bakhtarov, lived. He was the first in Don to carry out mass vaccinations of animals against anthrax and rabies.

The emergence of such a monument in Rostov is not accidental, as Don has long been one of the largest centers for horse breeding. A local saying goes that a Cossack without a horse is not a Cossack. The horse has always been a loyal friend and helper to the Don Cossacks, which contributed to the development of veterinary services in pre-revolutionary Don.
