On May 6, 2013, a monument to Vasily Filippovich Margelov, a hero of the Soviet Union, army general, and legendary commander of the airborne troops, often referred to as their founder, was unveiled in Ryazan. The opening was timed to coincide with the 105th anniversary of his birth.

The monument is located in the city center, in a quiet square near Lenin Square. The area around the monument is also named after V.F. Margelov. It is also symbolic that the famous airborne military academy is located nearby.

Sculptors B. S. Gorbunov and A. S. Kubasov depicted Margelov in full height, in military uniform, in a relaxed pose under an arch symbolizing a parachute, an essential attribute of paratroopers. The bronze sculpture stands three and a half meters tall and is installed on a marble pedestal. The total weight of the composition is about 8 tons.

Although the monument was installed recently, it quickly became popular among residents and visitors to the city. Many come here to express their gratitude and honor the memory of this great man.
