On August 11, 1791, the Russian squadron under Admiral Ushakov achieved victory over the Turkish fleet near Cape Kaliakra. Russia's losses amounted to 17 men. After the Turkish defeats at Rymnik in 1789, the fall of Izmail in 1790, and the rout at Machin in 1791, the sultan was informed: "Oh great one! Your fleet no longer exists!"

On August 10, 2006, a monument to Admiral F.F. Ushakov was unveiled and consecrated, timed to the 215th anniversary of the Russian fleet's victory over the Turkish squadron. The opening ceremony was attended by a Russian-Bulgarian delegation, which included representatives of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, as well as prominent public figures and politicians from Russia and Bulgaria.

For his victory in the Russo-Turkish battle on July 31, 1791, Admiral Ushakov was awarded the Order of Saint Alexander Nevsky. Thanks to his skilled command, the Russian fleet at Cape Kaliakra defeated forces significantly superior to those of the Ottoman Empire.

In the pristine white monument, the admiral is depicted with a telescope in hand, which, according to eyewitnesses, he rarely let go of. It was in this way, carefully observing the sea, that Fyodor Fyodorovich commanded the fleet from his sailing ship.
