Taras Shevchenko Monument in Surgut

Фото 1
The idea of installing a monument to Taras Shevchenko in Surgut came from local entrepreneur Vladimir Samborsky. In 2000, after attending the Second International Congress of Ukrainians, he met with an Omsk sculptor who complained about the lack of funding for a Shevchenko monument in Omsk. Samborsky suggested placing the sculpture in Surgut. The bronze figure, six meters tall, is located near the Culture and Leisure Center 'Kamerton.' The main goal of the monument's installation is to emphasize the unity and friendship of the multinational population of Surgut.
