The monument to Nicholas II in Kaluga became the first monument in this city.

In May 1904, Emperor Nicholas II visited Kaluga to give a speech to the troops of the Kaluga garrison who were heading to the Russo-Japanese War. Among them were the 9th Ingermanland Infantry Regiment, the 10th Novo-Ingermanland Infantry Regiment, and the 3rd Artillery Brigade.

In honor of this event, the residents of Kaluga decided to erect a monument. The laying of the foundation took place on June 29, 1907, and the opening was held on July 30, 1908.

The monument was an obelisk made of granite blocks topped with a bronze double-headed eagle. On the front side of the obelisk was the monogram of Nicholas II in a wreath under a crown. On the pedestal, boards with explanatory inscriptions were installed, commemorating the names of Kaluga officers who participated in the Russo-Japanese War.

During the Soviet era, the obelisk was dismantled.

The possibility of restoring the monument for the 400th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty was discussed, but it was not realized. Instead, on July 31, 2016, a bust of Nicholas II was installed in the Central Park of Culture and Recreation.
