The Monument of Freedom at Shipka Pass, also known as the memorial in honor of those who fell for the liberation of Bulgaria, is dedicated to the defenders of Shipka Pass during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. It is located on Stolev Peak, named after Major General N. G. Stoletov, one of the leaders of the defense. The monument was opened in 1934 and was built according to the design of architect Atanas Donkov and sculptor Alexander Andreev, funded by the Bulgarian people.

The memorial is a stone tower in the shape of a truncated pyramid, 31.5 meters high. Above the entrance stands a giant bronze lion, 8 meters long and 4 meters high, while the figure of a woman symbolizes victory over the Ottoman forces. On the first floor, there is a marble sarcophagus containing the remains of the defenders of the pass. The tower also houses four floors with an exhibition of Bulgarian military flags and other relics. From the top of the tower, there is an impressive view of Shipka Pass and its surroundings.

Every August, a historical reenactment of the events of 1877 is held at the monument. An important part of the event is a memorial service for the fallen soldiers of the Russian Empire and Bulgarian volunteers. They are given military honors, and state officials and citizens of Bulgaria lay wreaths of fresh flowers at the monument in gratitude.
