In 1999, the first monument to the outstanding Russian commander Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov was erected in Rostov-on-Don.

The monument is designed as a bust on a pedestal. The inscription on the monument reads: "I ask my descendants to take my example. A. V. Suvorov." The monument is surrounded by a fence made of marble pedestals connected by a metal chain. Cannonballs are placed on the pedestals, and nearby are stylized images of artillery pieces from Suvorov's time. The funds for the construction of the monument were raised by graduates of Suvorov and Nakhimov military schools. The author of the monument is the famous Rostov sculptor Anatoly Sknarin.

The monument is located at the intersection of Universitetsky Lane and the street named after Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov. This site once housed the house of the commandant of the Saint Dmitry Rostovsky fortress, where Suvorov lived while commanding the Kuban Corps and organizing the construction of defensive lines between the Don and Kuban rivers. Thus, the appearance of this monument in Rostov-on-Don is not accidental.
