In 2004, a monument to the great Russian commander Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov was erected in Novocherkassk, under whose command the famous Don Cossack Ataman Platov fought for a long time. Suvorov always had a fondness for the Cossacks and even commanded the Kuban Corps in the Azov region for some time, arriving there from the Don region. He visited the Don for the second time in 1782, when he was preparing troops for a campaign against the Nogais and conducting military exercises. His stay on Don land is marked by numerous monuments, one of which is the bust in Novocherkassk.

The monument is located next to the Suvorov Military School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The author of the bronze bust is sculptor Sergey Okunev. For a long time, discussions were held about the opening of the monument, its location, and architectural-sculptural solution. A competition for the best project was held in Novocherkassk, with sculptors from Rostov-on-Don, led by Tatyana Yagoditsina, winning. The project was implemented by sculptor Sergey Okunev. Funds for the creation of the monument were raised by a special fund for Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov, as well as through donations from enterprises in Novocherkassk and the Rostov region.

The monument is a bronze bust mounted on a round marble pedestal. An inscription is engraved on the reinforced concrete base: "Generalissimo Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov. 1730-1800," and below is his motto: "Honor to oneself, glory to the Motherland!" The area around the monument is landscaped, with two cannons installed nearby.
