The most famous monument dedicated to the outstanding actor Vasily Makarovich Shukshin is the 8-meter tall monument in his native village of Srostki. This majestic sculpture was unveiled in 2004, 30 years after Shukshin's death. Moscow sculptor Vyacheslav Klykov gifted this monument to Shukshin's homeland for his 75th anniversary. The monument has become the main attraction of Srostki. Architect Viktor Pasenko designed the sculptural composition on a two-meter boulder pedestal.

The bronze monument gradually reveals itself as one ascends the hill. From a distance, it seems that Shukshin is sitting at the top. His pose replicates the final frame from the film "Pechki-Lavochki," shot at Pikety. The figure faces the village, as if looking at his fellow countrymen and the panorama of the foothills.

Vyacheslav Klykov, the author of more than 40 monuments to great people of Russia, did not know Shukshin personally. However, after his death, he created numerous works dedicated to the writer: busts, sculptures, portraits, and four monuments. "When Shukshin passed away, I perceived it as a personal tragedy. He was that rare writer who could convey to our society the living word about the Russian person. Vasily Makarovich, a symbol of the Russian people," said the sculptor.
