In 2001, a monument was erected in the city of Livny to the outstanding Russian scholar, philosopher, and theologian Sergey Nikolayevich Bulgakov. It is located near the former male Holy Sergius Monastery.

Sergey Nikolayevich Bulgakov (1871-1944) was born into a priest's family in the city of Livny, Oryol province. Among his well-known works that brought him fame are "The Philosophy of Economy" (1912), "On God-Manhood: A Trilogy" (1933-45), and "The Philosophy of the Name" (published in 1953).
