In 1789, near the island of Kuusinen, which is now part of Finland, the Russian fleet achieved victory over the Swedish. In memory of this event and in honor of the fallen sailors, a monument was erected on one of the island's cliffs, featuring a statue of a woman holding wreaths. Russia gifted this monument to Finland, and it was created by sculptor Mikhail Anikushin. The figure of the mourning woman, extending her hands with wreaths towards the sea, was installed on July 28, 1998, on the island of Kuusinen on the cliffs descending to the Rochen-salm raid. At the time of installation, the sculptor was no longer alive. The remains of the sailors who perished in this battle on the ship 'Saint Nicholas' rest in the Orthodox Nikolai Church in the city of Kotka, located nearby.
