The bronze statue of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, created by sculptor Alexander Burganov, is located at the intersection of 22nd Street and H Street in the northwest part of Washington, on the campus of George Washington University.

This sculpture was installed as part of a cultural exchange between Moscow and Washington and is the first monument dedicated to a Russian writer in the U.S.

The initiative to install the Pushkin monument in Washington was proposed by James Simington, chairman of the American-Russian Cultural Cooperation Federation.

The foundation was laid on June 6, 1999, on the 200th anniversary of Pushkin's birth, and the statue was fully completed and installed on September 20, 2000, as a gift from the Moscow government to Washington. In 2009, a statue of American poet Walt Whitman was installed in Moscow.
