The first monument to Pushkin was unveiled in the park of the National Library in Chile. The ceremony was attended by Oleg Tolkachev, the first Deputy Prime Minister of the Moscow government, Santiago Mayor Jaime Ravinet, Russian Ambassador to Chile Alexey Kvasov, and sculptor Anatoly Bichukov, who created the monument.
This event is part of a program to strengthen cultural, educational, and technical ties between the capitals of Russia and Chile. In 1998, a bust of poetess Gabriela Mistral, a Nobel Prize laureate, was installed in Moscow.
