In the center of Mexico City, in Pushkin Park, a monument to the great Russian poet was unveiled. The ceremony was attended by Moscow government minister Alexander Muzykantsky, representatives of the authorities of Mexico City, and members of the diplomatic corps.

Alexander Muzykantsky, speaking at the opening, expressed satisfaction that the gift from the Moscow government would be located in Mexico City, a city known for its monuments to great civilizations.

The idea to install a bust of the Russian poet in the Mexican capital arose several years ago during the celebration of the 200th anniversary of his birth.

To realize this idea, many unexpected obstacles had to be overcome. For example, due to the high seismic activity in Mexico City, it was necessary to significantly strengthen the pedestal of the bust.

The monument was created by the People's Artist of Russia and Vice President of the Russian Academy of Arts Anatoly Bichukov.
