The monument to the holy martyr Avvakum Petrov in Borovsk, created by sculptor Oleg Molchanov, was unveiled on October 22, 2020, in honor of the 400th anniversary of Avvakum's birth. The funds for the installation of the monument were provided by philanthropist Sergey Sergeyevich Kondrashov.

Initially, it was planned to install the monument in Moscow near the spiritual school of the Old Believers, but it was ultimately moved to Borovsk, the historical center of Old Belief. The monument is located in the center of the park near the Cathedral of the Protection of the Holy Virgin on Kommunisticheskaya Street. In this city, Avvakum was exiled twice.

A delegation from the Russian Orthodox Old Believers Church, led by Metropolitan Korniliy of Moscow and All Russia, attended the unveiling. He was accompanied by Bishops Yefimiy of Kazan and Vyatka and Grigory of Tomsk and Yenisei, as well as teachers and students from MSDU and Old Believers from various communities.

Before the unveiling of the monument, a prayer service was held at the Church of the Entry of the Holy Virgin in Borovsk, led by Metropolitan Korniliy. After the service, guests proceeded to the monument's installation site at Kommunisticheskaya Street, 63. The ceremony was attended by the governor of the Kaluga region, Vladislav Shapsha, representatives of the administration, and philanthropist Sergey Kondrashov, who gifted the monument to the city, as well as sculptor Oleg Molchanov.

The monument is made of bronze, with a five-meter Golgotha Cross made of larch rising behind it. The pedestal, made of red and black granite, symbolizes the Schism of the Russian Church in the 17th century, with the red color reminding of Avvakum's martyrdom.

Avvakum is depicted in the vestments of a protopope, blessing with a two-finger gesture, holding a scroll inscribed with his words about steadfastness in faith. The Golgotha elevation of the pedestal is faced with natural stone in memory of Christ's Golgotha and Avvakum's feat.

The height of the monument is 3.7 meters, its weight is 1800 kg, and the weight of the Cross is 750 kg. The monument is located on the axis of the Protection Cathedral.
